This is a popular hem length for a outdoor wedding it's 1.5-2 inches off of the floor. -Sometimes grass or sand length hems are worn as much as three inches off the floor!  The dress doesn't have a crinoline, so it will be cooler.  The hem length will allow the dress to stay clean. Also, the hem won't bunch up on the grass during pictures.

I wanted to include the above picture because it shows two ways of hemming the same dress.  The first picture is the original hem.  The middle picture is the dress with pick-ups pinned in the front.  Pick-up are a low cost option.  They add volume and change the design a bit.  This bride chose to go with a regular hem, (on right)  which is more expensive than the pick-ups, but it maintains the original look of the dress.
